Marvin Dixon
was born in 1946 in Augusta, Georgia, the son of a Pentecostal Holiness Minister. His
mother and father sang and also had a radio program on a local station. Marvin began
singing on the program at the age of 6. Needless to say he's been singing ever since. He
moved to Oklahoma City in 1964 to attend college and over the past several years has sung
with various trios and quartets, one for as long as 25 years.
Marvin is married to Sharon, a Cafeteria Manager for Moore Public Schools. They have three
children, two daughters and a son. Tashonda, the oldest, works as a Medical Practice
Manager for an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon in Oklahoma City. Mikki works as a Bank Teller for
a National Banking Institution. Terrell, a senior in high school, is very active with the
youth group at his local church. Marvin also works for Moore Public Schools in the Child
Nutrition office. He has one grandchild, Kaylee, who is the joy of his life.
Marvin sings tenor for The Gentry, does most of the song arrangements for the group and
does some composing. His most notable song, "The Comforter", recorded by The
Gentry on their "Debut" project, still remains one of their most requested
songs.
Marvin loves to spend time with his family at their cabin on Lake Eufaula in Eastern
Oklahoma. He loves water sports such as skiing, tubing and riding their Sea-Doo®. He
enjoys watching college football or basketball games, and his favorite teams are the
Georgia Bulldogs and the Oklahoma Sooners, though not necessarily in that order.
Marvin still has an overwhelming desire to do all that he can for God, both on stage and
in his everyday life.
