"The Gentry", an early English term meaning "the gentlemen", only
starts to describe this vibrant and inspiring gospel singing group headquartered in
Oklahoma City. Originally organized in the 1970's, they sang for some five years before
disbanding. Now reorganized, The Gentry are once again singing in churches and concerts
throughout the region.
The group is comprised of its four original members, including
Marvin Dixon,
the tenor singer and composer-arranger,
Ron Jay,
manager, spokesman and baritone singer,
Jim Pierce,
pianist and secretary, and
James Reed,
lead singer and advertising manager. Additional instrumentalists provide a full sound of
musical accompaniment.
The Gentry are best known for a straightforward "tell it like it is"
presentation that combines smooth harmony and unique styling with a fresh, new focus on
the message of Christ. They communicate without confusion and misunderstanding, and with
their talent, professional ability, and a sincere desire to continue winning souls, The
Gentry provide a unique, enjoyable and inspiring gospel music experience for everyone in
their audience.
